| L'Antidote è un'etichetta inglese specializzata in dj mix divertenti, da festa ma, in questo caso, sarebbe meglio dire da dancehall visto che si tratta di quasi un'ora di reggae. La sorpresa è costituita dall'autore: Dj Shortkut è stato al fianco di Q Bert e Mixmaster Mike negli Invisibl Skratch Piklz, ossia uno dei gruppi culto del versante hip hop in cui si passa la maggior parte del proprio tempo di fronte ai piatti, principalmente per scratchare; e da esponente di assoluto rilievo (e talento) dell'arte del turntablism, Shortkut dimostra di saperci fare anche col reggae. Non che in questo caso gli scratch abbiano un ruolo centrale (anzi), ma i tanti brani roots e reggae-dub, in alcuni casi addirittura prossimi al soul e al rock steady, sono davvero ben selezionati e ben mixati. Non potevano mancare Bob Marley e brani classici come "Stop that train" ("nascosta" in "Draw your brakes" di Scotty), così come tante altre firme notevoli come King Tubby (vero e proprio re del dub), Augustus Pablo o ancora Barrington Levy. Ma questa è una di quelle selezioni che ti fa segnare sul taccuino almeno quattro o cinque nomi "sconosciuti" per andare a cercare un intero album con quella firma. E a proposito di nomi, una menzione speciale va a Charlie Chaplin, John Wayne e Clint Eastwood: per chi non li conoscesse o, più probabilmente, è solo un po' spiazzato, sì, fanno proprio reggae. |
